Online Blackjack School - lesson 16

Pair splittingPair splitting is a basic play, but even better if further splits can be made after the first split. Knowing how to play pairs is important, as the splitting can be a real edge in the game of Blackjack. The True Count again determines how a split is played and which pairs to split some of the time and not all of the time. A deck rich in high cards, a big plus number should cause pairs to be split if they are high numbers against a low number. The same is true if the opposite is the case and the count number is a big minus and the pair are small numbers. A high plus number will be conducive to more splits. A low or falling number will generate fewer splits. One of the problems with splitting tens is that other players at the table will yelp and this brings the pit crew into the picture when you do something out of the norm of most players. Bringing attention to your play is not a way to stay under the radar that is looking for card counters.

If you are playing at a table by yourself, then do it. If you are at a table with many other players, this may be an unwise play as far as staying unrecognized as a counter.

The combination of True Count and pairs in a position like this is a boon to the player and is a very playable edge in the play of Blackjack. The advantage of knowing the True Count is significant to the correct play of the hands.

Stand back and watchStand back and watch a table and watch the crazy plays that player make. Now that you understand more about card counting, maybe some of those plays were not as crazy as they seemed, but card counters may have made many of these crazy moves.

The best situation for most situations is a high plus number as it makes pair play better and makes the dealer bust more often as they will not get a five on a 16 count hand. When a dealer is busting many hands, the player does not have to get as many strong hands. Winning on less than optimum hands is a big plus of a deck with a big plus number. This side of the True Count is better for more hands as the player can or not hit any hand. The dealer has no choice when to hit. This is a big disadvantage for the dealer as they are forced to hit by the rules.
