Understanding
the Betting Strategy
of Blackjack

Blackjack has been for a number of decades the gaming choice of players visiting a live casino and now those that visit an online casino. Understanding the strategy of betting during a hand is a critical part of winning at the game. The following tips on how to play certain hands have a high percentage of being the correct play when faced with this hand configuration. The complex play is made simple by knowing just a few tricks of play and over time can make a session a winning one or a losing one.

If the players two cards total a nine and the dealer is showing a three, four, five or a six, the player should double down. The same is true if the two cards total 10 and the dealer is showing any card except an Ace or a ten. If the total is eleven and the dealer is showing any card but an Ace, the player should double down.

Insurance that is offered by the house is a bad bet except when the remaining shoe is high in ten-value cards. Other wise it should be passed on and not taken.

A pair of eights or Aces should always be split. A hand with two fours, two fives or two tens/face cards should never be split.

A soft 17 should be hit when the dealer is showing a tem-value card. The reason is the only way this hand can win is if the dealer busts the hand.

A soft 13 thru 17 should be hit when the dealer is showing a seven or higher. A three card soft 13 thru 17 should not be hit.

When the dealer has a five or six showing the player should double down when holding a soft 13 thru 17.

When the dealer is showing a 3, the player should double down on a soft 17.
